Session 7

Session 7:

played on April 8 @ Stefs
GameLocation: near the red 1 on the map.
GameDate: day 7

After conquering the orc stronghold, the party sits down and discusses what to do next. This is not taken lightly: for hours on end they discuss all possibilities and do some contingency planning. Especially Tom goes out of his way to make sure the plan is watertight. It is expected that the party of orcs that left earlier that day will return when evening draws near, but also the prisoners mining in the caves will return. Hence, both sides of the decayed fort will have to be covered. Bruno is dressed up as an orc and put on the front gate to look out for the returning orc party without alerting them that their base has been conquered. The rest of the party covers the back of the fort. After hours of waiting, suddenly the gate in the rock cliff behind the fort opens and the day-shift of mining prisoners comes out, guarded by some orcs and a troll. Stefan spots them and waits tensely for them to draw near. When they are almost at the back wall of the fortress, Stefan signals the attack. In the next moment, Jonathan tries to shoot his bow, but his nerves get to him, he fumbles and loses his weapon. Stefan seems a bit overstressed too: he aims for the troll, but hits a prisoner with his arrow instead. Luckily, the alliance with de dwarves still stands: they charge and knock out an orc, which is nevertheless saved from instant death by his sturdy helmet. By now however, the troll has really lost his temper and drives the dwarves back inside. But Seth is ready for the troll when it enters the fort: he deals a mighty blow to the troll's arm, which earns him a cracked rib in turn. One of the less brave orcs now decides it's time to surrender. Stefan is too busy trying to fight the troll to bother with surrendering formalities, so he tries to get the orc to attack the troll too. Now everybody knows an orc is not terribly smart, but even they know which side of a troll with a bad temper to choose, so he's not really enthousiastic to go along with Stefan's suggestion. Stefan gets so confused by all the fuss with the orc, that when he turns back to the battle, he thinks he spots a pixie in the corner and it takes a couple of more moments for him to recover his senses. The dwarves then decide it's time to quit fooling around and finish of the troll. The remaining orcs now surrender too. And all this time Bruno has been intently looking the other way to make sure the other party doesn't return.
Now that the battle is over, the prisoners don't really want to wait for the other orcs and troll to return and start leaving. The dwarfs also think they've seen enough orc for one day and want to leave. Our heroes however don't plan to leave without their precious silver and want to go investigating the caves. In the end, they persuade one of the peasants to go with them into the caves and show them where the wizard is. They also talk the dwarves into hanging out just a bit longer and looking out for the other orcs. Once in the caves, the wizard is found easily with help of the peasants. He is a reading books in a cave along with a couple of trolls playing dice. Tom drinks an invisibility potion, sneaks upon the wizard from behind and gives him an unpleasant surprise. Now Bruno jumps out and risks a shot at one of the orcs, but misses. Jonathan charges the orcs too. When the rest of the party enters, the orcs quickly surrender. The wizard turns out to be a bit more surprised by Tom than intended and slightly more dead too. A quick search of the body reveals two maps. Everybody takes a look at maps and try to figure out what their purpose is. Ultimately, Tom figures out the secret and discovers the place where the silver is hidden inside the caves. Time to leave!
