Session 8:
played on May 27 @ Tom's
GameLocation: near the red 1 on the map.
GameDate: day 8-9
PeoplePresent: Ronny, Tom, Seth & Stefan
It is late afternoon, and the party just finished dragging the silver out of the caves. The dwarves get the remaining pony and start loading half of the silver. After some discussion we let them keep the donkey, and we use the hand-cart to move our silver. The dwarves leave, heading north. We have to go (south-)east to return the silver. The party decides to quickly go south with the silver on the handcart (and Bruno scouting approx 900 feet ahead, to warn us if he should see the troll/orc away party return). After two hours we have passed the T-crossing on the road, following it south, and we hoped away from the route that the troll/orc away-party took. We travel on, making our camp at about 1900 h. After going off the road with the Silver (first carrying the approx 200 pounds of silver, then coming back for the cart), we spend an uneventful night.
The next day we leave early, continuing on the road. Bruno is still scouting about 600 feet in front of the party, while Tom scouts ahead 300 feet, allowing for better communication. At about 1400h Bruno comes back from his point position and says there is crossroad, where the orcs seem to be asking toll of passing merchants. The party decides to take a cut-off through the forest (we have to take the crossing road).
After this operation (3/4th of a mile through rough forest with 200 ponds of silver and a hand cart, requiring two trips and approx 2 hours), Bruno and Tom sneak to the cross roads and check out the toll-house.
Before, Bruno had spotted two guards that were patrolling around the toll-house, and one orc handling the taxation of merchants. Currently, there was no merchant, and only the two guards. We extrapolated about 7-9 people in total (we had seen three outside, probably one more inside, doubling for two shifts). After some planning, we decided to try and rob the orc tollhouse (we are in the resistance after all!). Tom sneaked into a good sniping position, with a view of the door's of the toll house. Jonathan & Bruno would sneak in from one side, and Seth and Stefan would charge in from the other.
At about 1700h we proceeded with our plan. Our strategy worked quite nicely. Stefan was feeling on top of the world today (brained two orcs with very high crits), while Tom had a bad day (low rolls & fumble). There were 8 orcs in total, but as we surprised them we had time to incapacitate a few before they were all out of the toll-house.
Near the end Jonathan suddenly fell down (sleep spell), and we noticed a spell-caster inside, but he was dealt with swiftly. Three orcs have survived. We found a good deal of money that the orcs had collected from the passing merchants, and also a merchant that was taken prison (for attempting to avoid the toll-house). We freed the merchant and have picked up the valuables. There was also a spare horse at the house: no more pushing the cart with silver!! yeej).
Here the session ends... (with a discussion on whether we should kill the orcs... they can ID us after all)
